History of the Foundation around the World:
In 1974, three-year-old Kim fell ill with leukemia. The parents of the child are transferred to the hospital to be close to him. During their stay there, they meet many other parents who also cannot afford to rent a hotel room and stay away from home. The father of the sick child, Fred Hill, is a contestant in Eagle’s Philadelphia football team and with the help of his teammates he starts raising funds to help the sick children’s families. So the football team, children’s hospital and McDonald’s restaurants decided to join forces and create a home for the relatives of all the children in the hospital. So was founded the first Ronald McDonald house.
Over the next few years, more than 330 such houses have been opened in many countries for parents of sick children. A special Charity Foundation for Children Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) was set up to support them. Funds are raised through charity initiatives in McDonald’s restaurants as well as through individual donations.
Today, the foundation maintains 339 homes in 36 countries and regions around the world. There is a global network of 180 branches operating in 50 countries. She has donated considerable funds to help significant charity causes around the world.
